Tutoring Experience

I have tutoring experience in Maths, Biology, and Chemistry spanning over 3 years. I have also had the opportunity to contribute to an academic summer school, Immerse Education, in Cambridge for two summers. As a manager and facilitator, I played a pivotal role in running the program, ensuring a rich learning environment and providing guidance to students across various subjects and disciplines.

One of my notable areas of expertise lies in conducting mock interviews for aspiring medical students, particularly in the rigorous Oxbridge panel interview style. Drawing from my extensive knowledge of the medical field and my experience with the application process, I am adept at simulating real interview scenarios, offering valuable insights, and providing constructive feedback to help students refine their interview skills and boost their confidence.

I am well-versed in supporting students preparing for the UCAT (University Clinical Aptitude Test) and BMAT (BioMedical Admissions Test), both of which are vital assessments for aspiring medical students. With a comprehensive understanding of the content, structure, and strategies required for success in these exams, I am well-equipped to guide students through their preparation journey, ensuring they are fully prepared to tackle the challenges presented by these demanding tests.

My experiences in private tutoring, managing academic programs, and supporting aspiring medical students have equipped me with a broad skill set and a deep understanding of the intricacies involved in facilitating effective learning and aiding students in achieving their academic goals.

Tutoring Approach

From past tutoring, I have found that the tutoring style that has gotten the best results is to build up knowledge from first principles. I make heavy use of past paper questions and testing current knowledge to develop a student's understanding of a new concept from knowledge they already have. This approach develops problem solving skills, exam confidence and allows students to hit all the marking criteria when answering questions.

I tend not to tutor based on a curriculum, instead basing lessons on what the student wishes to cover or what they are struggling with, tailoring each lesson to your needs. I can set personalised homework if desired to target the students weaknesses and am happy to answer any questions you may have during the week!
