The MYP Curriculum and Subject Groups

The MYP curriculum consists of eight subject groups:

Core Elements of the MYP

MYP Exams and Assessments

Assessment is a fundamental component of the MYP, providing feedback, encouraging growth, and evaluating students' understanding of the curriculum. The MYP assessment framework comprises both internal and external components.

In 2016, the MYP assessment structure underwent important changes. Mandatory moderation was introduced for the Personal Project to ensure consistency and fairness in evaluation. Additionally, a new optional external assessment called MYP eAssessment was implemented for students in MYP Year 5 (15-16 years old). The MYP eAssessment offers external evaluation and leads to the internationally recognised IB MYP certificate and IB MYP course results.

The MYP eAssessment is a balanced and appropriately challenging model that combines examinations and coursework. It includes two-hour examinations in language and literature, sciences, mathematics, and individuals and societies. These examinations are individually marked by IB examiners. Moreover, portfolios of student work in language acquisition, physical and health education, arts, and design undergo moderation by IB examiners to ensure adherence to international standards.

The introduction of the MYP eAssessment provides students with an opportunity to showcase their knowledge, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in a formal examination setting. The 2022 eAssessment pass rate for MYP students was 82%. This external assessment, alongside the internal assessments conducted by teachers, contributes to a comprehensive evaluation of students' abilities and understanding of the MYP curriculum.

MYP Grading and Certificate

Successful completion of the MYP requirements, including the MYP eAssessment, leads to the prestigious IB MYP certificate. The certificate recognises students' achievement in the MYP and prepares them for future study. Students must complete eight eAssessments, including on-screen examinations and ePortfolios, covering subjects such as language and literature, language acquisition, individuals and societies, sciences, mathematics, interdisciplinary learning, and the MYP personal project.

Students receive IB MYP course results for each subject completed. The maximum total score for the IB MYP certificate is 56, with grades ranging from 1 to 7 assigned to each required eAssessment component.

To achieve the MYP certificate, students must obtain a total of at least 28 points, with a grade of 3 or higher in each eAssessment component. If students complete multiple eAssessments for a required or selected subject group, the highest available grade contributes to the certificate total. In 2022, less than 1% of students received a total score of 53 or above, showing the difficulty of the MYP.
