Tutoring Experience

With extensive experience in teaching IB Environmental Systems & Societies (ESS) and Biology, my tutoring approach centers on fostering critical thinking and applying knowledge to real-world contexts. I emphasize a personalized learning experience, ensuring that each student's unique strengths and areas for growth are addressed. In my previous roles as an IBDP Coordinator and Extended Essay Coordinator, I gained valuable insights into curriculum design and student mentoring, which I integrate into my tutoring sessions. My goal is to equip students with both the academic knowledge and the strategic skills needed for exam success, always prioritizing their understanding and long-term retention of the material.

Tutoring Approach

My tutoring approach is highly personalized, beginning with a consultation to gather important information about the student's background, educational goals, and comfort with the subject. I ask about any specific content they want to focus on and their overall aim for the course. Throughout our sessions, I continuously ask questions to gauge understanding, providing practical tips that students can apply even when I'm not there to guide them. Each lesson starts with a 5 to 10-minute review of previous material, ensuring continuity and reinforcing key concepts. This sets the stage for new learning while connecting it to prior knowledge.

At the completion of each unit, I assign tasks or homework to assess their progress. I grade these assignments and keep a close eye on any areas that need improvement. If progress stalls, I make adjustments, whether by changing the way I deliver the content or by altering the type of assignments to better suit the student's learning style. I maintain regular communication with both students and parents, offering progress reports and clear expectations for improvement. My focus is on keeping the lessons interactive and dynamic, ensuring students remain engaged and actively involved in their learning.
