Tutoring Experience

I have provided hundreds of hours of science and maths tuition. Starting while still at secondary school, I taught four students GCSE Chemistry, Maths and Physics as a private tutor between 2017 and 2018. All students exceeded their initial marks by at least a whole grade over the course of many months of dedicated tuition, with students exceeding their expected grades in all courses taught.

During University, I tutored fellow students - in one instance, providing pre-exam tuition in advanced science topics for a student who was previous achieving a pass in the subject and helping him achieve a strong 2:1.

I have also tutored from January to September 2021, teaching maths for school years 1-11, helping young children with homework and teaching foundational numeracy, a solid grounding in helping others academically.

Tutoring Approach

In my tutoring I have three priorities:

The first is to teach a consistent and rigorous methodology, developing each tutee's ability to approach both well understood and novel problems in their subject of study with confidence, regardless of complexity.

Secondly, I prioritise not just teaching the subject through rote learning of facts. I illustrate each topic with real world examples or practical applications that I hope to inspire students as well as directly engage them in learning, making studying more rewarding and productive for them.

Finally, I prioritise adaptability in teaching, in order to best approach each student's learning style, with the ultimate goal of helping each student reach their full potential.

One-on-one tutorials are at the heart of my approach. Frequent and personally tailored tuition is key, with an emphasis on dialogue and reinforcement of knowledge through the assignment of relevant work and exploration and reassessment of previously studied topics.
