Tutoring Experience

I love teaching and all my classes are student centered with a friendly and encouraging approach that gives students excellent results. Since 2017, I have been an adjunct faculty member at George Washington University’s Graduate School of Public Health, teaching graduate level Biostatistics and Research Methods.

I’ve taught high school math, SAT Math, SAT Verbal, and college admissions essay writing.

In 2006, I also ran my own college consulting business and helped students with SAT preparation, college admissions essays, and mentored students in all aspects of preparing fortheir goals and attending their dream schools.

Tutoring Approach

SAT Math: Understanding math concepts can be difficult for most people. That’s why I like to take a fun approach with lots of examples and go through solving problems together in a step by step fashion. I also share plenty of test taking strategies and help students make the best educated guesses on multiple choice questions.

SAT Verbal: I’ve worked with a lot of international students where English is not their first language. I like to make sure we review grammar and vocabulary to have a nice foundation and then build from there. I also teach speed reading, map making, and how to annotate passages to answer questions with much more accuracy.

GRE Math: For students who have not taken a math class in a while, the GRE can be daunting. I work a lot with older students and professionals who need a good review of the basics. I love encouraging people to take their time and practice with easy examples. I also share a lot of test taking strategies and helpful test tips to do well on the exam even if you do not have time to go over everything about high school math.

GRE Verbal: The preparation for this exam involves fast reading strategies, mapping the test, and developing a clear plan to tackle the writing section. GRE Verbal tends to be slightly harder than the SAT Verbal and so we’re going to do a lot of practice. As someone who took this test years into my career, I’m very understanding and encouraging. I’ve helped students from all areas of life, including those with full time jobs and young families.

College Admissions Essay Writing: I love the process of getting to know a student really well and learning about their interests and goals. I really enjoy mentoring students on the college admissions process and helping them find creative ways to express themselves.

College Admissions Counseling: Neither of my parents went to school in the US so I had to learn all about the college admissions process. I love helping students reach their goals and really listening to their needs. I want to support students in every aspect of the admissions process, from finding scholarships to picking the right extracurriculars that would really make students stand out.
