Tutoring Experience

I started tutoring reading and math as a volunteer ten years ago, and throughout high school and college, I tutored in a variety of volunteer settings. Since 2017, I’ve been tutoring for the ACT, SAT, and GRE, and after taking the LSAT this past November, I began tutoring for that exam as well. I’ve helped many students increase their scores by several points, sometimes with just a few sessions. I help students who are able to complete significant work outside of our sessions to make plans for what work they’ll do on their own, and this has tended to significantly increase the speed at which students are able to make improvements.

ACT/SAT Tuition Approach

I specialize in creating individualized lesson plans for my students to help them understand their challenges and capitalize on their strengths. I teach test content for the test sections that require it (math and English/writing and language), and I provide students with materials that target the specific content areas they need to work on. I also tutor testing strategies and work with students on practice exam sections. I enjoy helping my students figure out what test strategies work best for them, and most of all, I enjoy helping them build their confidence.

GRE Tuition Approach

My approach for the GRE is similar to my approach for the ACT and SAT in that I create individualized lesson plans and provide students with materials targeted toward the content that they need to work on as well as help them with practice test sections and general testing strategies. Since vocabulary is also a significant portion of the GRE exam, I often prepare word lists for students and help students learn tricks for learning vocabulary more efficiently.

LSAT Tuition Approach

For this exam as well, I take a targeted approach and help students focus on the areas that they most need to work on. For the logic games section, I help students learn general diagramming and game-solving strategies if this is something they need to work on, and I also help with strategies for increasing speed and understanding how to complete games most efficiently. For logical reasoning, I help students understand how to approach different kinds of questions and with understanding argument structures. For reading comprehension, I emphasize understanding patterns in the questions and strategies for increasing speed and comprehension.
