Tutoring Experience

I was a Peer Tutor Fellow for the Bureau of Study Counsel, tutoring Harvard students one-on-one in Math (Linear Algebra) and German. Before college, I tutored students of all ages in Math and English.

Tutoring Approach

I tutor on a case-by-case basis, depending on the needs of each student. I do not use a cookie-cutter approach, as everyone is different, and some methods may work better than others for a particular student. However, I start with the following strategy, adapting to a student’s learning style where necessary:

For Math and Sciences, I begin with reviewing the fundamental concepts of the material that is being taught. This allows me to assess in what areas the student may need more help. From here, I progress with example problems, and then move on to the student’s homework.

For English and German, I place an emphasis on speaking the language by practicing dialogues. I find this to be a very useful way to learn the language, and it also allows me to gain an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the student. From here, I move on to problems determined by the needs of the tutee, such as reviewing grammar or vocabulary.
