Tutoring Experience
I began tutoring 5 years ago, whilst I was still at school. I coached students through their GCSE maths exams, bringing a more flexible style than that offered in the classroom. I teach predominantly by asking questions, breaking down questions for you, into manageable chunks so that you are able to work them out, piece-by-piece, yourself.
I appreciate the stress related to exams, being a student myself and am also very prepared to help you deal with that, plan your studying and achieve academic success.
Tutoring Approach
Economics Tuition Approach
My approach to teaching economics treats intuition and maths as two separate tools that can help you understand the material. If you struggle with the mathematical side of economics, I can help you work out the analogies and verbal explanations of different phenomena and effects, which will help you carry out the maths. Likewise, if you’re very solid mathematically but struggle with explaining what’s happening in words, I will help you translate from maths into logic.
I also appreciate that one of the most profound roadblocks to comprehending economics and performing well in economics exams, is if you find the material too dry. As a result, I will connect the material to your interests, so that you can see the relationship between what you’re studying and the world around us.
Mathematics Tuition Approach
The study of mathematics should be a two-way discussion. Rather than lecture to you and expect you to listen, I take a facilitative approach to teaching maths. Wherever possible, I seek to ‘show’ instead of ‘telling’, giving you hints and asking questions to induce your own curiosity and reasoning. I also love visualisations, analogies, images, graphs and other visual aids to make maths easier to follow.
University Admissions Test Tuition Approach
I’ve taken many (probably too many) admissions tests over the years, and I’ve developed a process for preparing for them. I will be able to advise you on strategy for approaching the test, designing a studying plan that works and finding materials to practice. I can also help you to identify certain common question types, which will give you an edge in selecting the right tools to solve them.
