Personally Interviewed

Our tutors go through a rigorous selection process, having been interviewed to assess their teaching skills and subject knowledge. They have extensive tutoring experience with a track record of success, helping students achieve their academic goals.

Tutoring Experience

I have extensive tutoring experience with a wide range of students and subjects.

My first position was a 2-year voluntary role, in which I tutored a GCSE student with Asperger’s syndrome in English Language, meaning that I have experience working with students with specific communication needs. Working with this student was extremely rewarding, and she moved from a grade 3 to a grade 5 during my time with her.

Since then, I have been a mentor for GCSE and A-level students through two different voluntary platforms, focusing mainly on study skills and, for the year 12 students, the UCAS admissions process. This involves personal statement editing, Oxbridge interview preparation, and mock interviews.

My most recent A-level mentee was offered a place to study chemistry at Oxford, and attributed this offer to the work we had done together. I also take a range of private students through word-of-mouth connections.

As a subject tutor, I tutor predominantly GCSE and A-level maths and sciences, both individually and in small groups, and have worked for both individual clients and for large tutoring agencies.

Tutoring Approach

My main priority when tutoring is to ensure that all my sessions are tailored specifically to my student’s needs.

For admissions tutoring, I generally ask for submission of personal statements so that I can edit them and give feedback, and run mock interviews and tutorials to help students become acquainted with the admissions process.

For academic tutoring, I generally structure the lesson such that we begin with some teaching of key principles on the whiteboard and then move to working through examples together throughout the lesson. If it fits with the student’s timetable, I will then set some homework covering key concepts, which we will go through at the beginning of the next session.

11+ sessions will be focused predominantly on going through practice questions, though if the student has any specific content concerns, I am also happy to run teaching sessions on certain topics.
