Vetted Tutor

Personally Interviewed

Our tutors go through a rigorous selection process, having been interviewed to assess their teaching skills and subject knowledge. They have extensive tutoring experience with a track record of success, helping students achieve their academic goals.

Tutoring Experience

I have been tutoring A-Level Psychology for the last three years and have received excellent reviews from my students. From a university perspective, I have experience tutoring a student for the PBSAA Cambridge admissions exam and Oxbridge interview and have had many successful students. I have also tutored students to prepare them for a psychology degree, and a student for the 11+ admissions test who successfully obtained a place at their chosen school.

Tutoring Approach

11+ Verbal, Non-Verbal and Maths Tutor

I will first ask the student to take an 11+ practise exam in their own time. They can then send what work they have managed to do in advance of our session so I can mark it in advance and then tailor our tutoring session to the types of questions they need most help with.

GCSE Maths, Biology and Physics Tutor

As a GCSE tutor, the student often brings a piece of GCSE work they are struggling on to discuss in our sessions. This could be a homework or a past paper, for example. I will then discuss the work with them, helping them to realize themselves what the answers to their own questions are rather than just doing it for them. To make sure that what they were finding confusing is then fully understood, I often design the student a worksheet with more questions on about the challenging topic. They can do this worksheet in their own time and ask me for help with it and the answers in order to consolidate what they were finding difficult. I also have notes and useful online resources that I can share with them from my own GCSE studies, and general revision advice that can help for taking GCSEs in general.

A Level Biology and Psychology Tutor

Studying a biology and psychology degree for two years means I have a strong academic background to teach biology and psychology A level. As an A level tutor, the student often brings a piece of A level work they are struggling with to discuss in our sessions. I also have notes and useful online resources that I can share with them from my own A level studies, and general revision advice that can help for taking A levels in general. I can also offer useful additional reading resources and teach beyond the A level curriculum. This will help students with the essay questions in their biology and psychology exams, helping students to achieve the highest grades they can in these subjects.

EPQ Tutor

As a psychology undergraduate, I have a robust understanding of how to reference and write persuasive essays. I can teach students these skills to help them to write outstanding essays for their EPQ. Since I myself achieved an A* in my EPQ, I also have my own project as a template which I can use to advise students on what resources they need to include in their EPQ to achieve top marks. If the student is wanting to write an EPQ that is based on biology or psychology, I can also contribute my knowledge in these fields to help the student to understand sources they read and to offer extra reading suggestions.

PBSAA Tutor

I can direct students to questions from similar entrance exams that they may not be aware of to help them to prepare for the PBSAA, which itself has few practise papers. The student can complete practise questions in their own time and send them to me in advance of the session for me to mark. We can then discuss their answers in our sessions, where I will help them to understand and correct any mistakes. I can also read their practise essays for the final part of the exam, and make technique and extra reading suggestions to help them to write the most persuasive essay they can for this section.

Psychological and Behavioural Sciences Tutor

I can teach students basic biology, maths and referencing skills via mini-lectures and tutorials which will help them to prepare for and access a psychological and behavioural sciences degree. This service is particular useful for students who have not taken a Biology A level or equivalent. For students who are already taking a psychology or behavioural sciences degree, I can discuss content and set work with them to help them to understand the subjects better and to edit their work themselves in a way that can improve their grade.

Oxbridge Admissions Tutor

I can help students wanting to make a competitive application to Oxbridge by offering practice interviews, discussions providing insight into what Cambridge and college life is like and what will be expected of them as a student, and personal statement advice which can be used by the student to edit their statement themselves in order to help them to best portray their potential to thrive at Oxbridge.

"Kirstie is an amazing tutor and a person as well! She is very direct and clear in what she’s saying. I found her really helpful in improving my grade for psychology. Sarah, EPQ Student (Edexcel)

“Kirstie is a fantastic tutor! She provides exceptional support in preparing for all aspects of the Cambridge application process. Kirstie is able to give an insight into the characteristics of each Cambridge college, as well as the different aspects of the PBS course. She gives great advice on how to structure the personal statement, and always responds quickly to questions with considered answers. In terms of interview preparation, Kirstie is able to recommend a range of wider reading and digital resources. She also offers a range of techniques for applying existing knowledge to tackle tricky questions. I delighted to have received an offer from Cambridge, and feel as though working with Kirstie has also helped prepare me to get the most out of the course. Thank you Kirstie!”

“Kirstie has been extremely helpful to me in understanding A level psychology. I came to Kirstie with limited and confused knowledge of psychology and struggling with exam technique. Our weekly sessions were brilliant- Kirstie taught me in a way which was tailored to my learning. Through her marking my past papers she was able to help me pinpoint areas I could improve on and helped me to appropriately structure my answers to access the higher marking bands. I am very thankful for all of Kirstie’s help and highly recommend Kirstie to anyone who is struggling with Psychology.”
