Tutoring Experience

With over 20 years of experience, I have taught a wide range of Social Sciences subjects, including AP Macroeconomics, AP Microeconomics, AP US Government, US History, Psychology, and Criminal Law. My passion for AP Economics is especially strong, as I enjoy introducing students to concepts that are directly relevant to their lives as they approach adulthood. When I began teaching AP Economics at Spain Park High School, enrolment grew from fewer than 30 students to more than 100 in just two years, with student pass rates for both AP Macroeconomics and AP Microeconomics consistently exceeding the national average. I tutor students from across the world, including Asia, Europe, South America, and the U.S. Additionally, I serve as an AP Economics exam reader each summer, having scored thousands of FRQs.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to tutoring begins with getting to know the student personally. I like to learn about the classes they are taking, their hobbies, and other interests outside of academics. Since I primarily work with older students, this helps me connect the material to real-world applications that resonate with them. I believe that understanding a student's background allows me to tailor my teaching to their unique needs and strengths, creating a more engaging and relevant learning experience.

In my sessions, I incorporate a lot of interactive questioning to assess whether the student is truly absorbing the material. From the very beginning, I ask direct questions to gauge their understanding and adjust my approach based on their responses. I require students to keep their cameras on at all times, ensuring they are fully engaged. Participation is key, so I actively involve them by asking frequent questions and encouraging discussion to ensure they are thinking critically and staying engaged throughout the session.
