Tutoring Experience

I have extensive experience teaching mathematics, with a focus on the IB Diploma Programme. Over the past seven years, I've had the privilege of working with a diverse range of students, helping them confidently navigate the demanding IB curriculum. My role as an IB Examiner has provided me with a deep understanding of assessment standards, which I use to guide students strategically toward achieving their best possible results. I take a student-centred approach, carefully adapting my teaching to ensure each learner builds a strong conceptual foundation, hones their problem-solving abilities, and can apply mathematics in real-world situations.

Tutoring Approach

I start by gauging each student’s understanding and pinpointing the areas where they need the most support in mathematics. By using textbooks and real-world examples, I help contextualize complex scenarios, making the material more relatable and easier to grasp. I also guide students with their wording, especially when articulating mathematical explanations, which is crucial for both understanding and assessments. Benchmarking their initial understanding through a diagnostic test gives me insight into where they stand, allowing us to set achievable goals and track progress over time.

If I notice that a student isn’t progressing as expected, I readily adapt my teaching methods to better meet their needs, whether by introducing new resources, adjusting the pace, or incorporating different types of practice. I aim to keep each lesson engaging and relevant, often presenting concepts through interesting scenarios that connect math to real-world applications. This not only enhances understanding but also sparks curiosity and motivation, ensuring that students find learning math to be a rewarding experience.
