Tutoring Experience

I've privately tutored students in Honors Mathematics, crafting personalized curricula to enhance long-term study skills. Currently, I tutor in Mathematics and Science, focusing on academic success and college readiness. I also guide students in developing unique narratives for university acceptance and provide advice on the application process.

Tutoring Approach

Math and Chemistry Tuition Approach STEM classes tend to be difficult because they require an intuitive understanding of concepts learned in class, so when students prioritize superficial memorization, assessments and homework assignments can seem exceeding “unfamiliar” and “challenging.” My approach is to first have a quick debrief session where we discuss the student’s history with the subject and we review the course syllabus to identify any overarching knowledge gaps from previous years that would impede learning now.

Once these gaps are quickly covered, I assess the student’s performance in the class by asking them to work out practice problems and explain relevant concepts to identify strengths and weaknesses in certain subject areas. From here, I find the best approach is first understanding the material beyond the surface level followed by lots of practice! I make sure to ask questions through sessions to ensure the tutoring is geared towards the student’s learning style, and I make adjustments throughout to guarantee course success.

Admissions Tuition Approach College admissions is truly a holistic process and I reflect this sentiment in my approach. For younger students, I focus on college readiness by advising them to take certain courses, get involved in extracurricular activities and discover their unique academic passions. For older students, the key to a successful college application cycle is constructing a unique, non-generic application that truly reflects their background, interests and accomplishments alongside convincing a school why they should accept them!

I help with building this cohesive application theme as well as more specific work, such as designing personal statements to impress top schools.I ask students to either brainstorm and outline their ideas with me, or we go through drafts they have written themselves. The editing process is repeated until we both are satisfied with the personal statement they have come up with, and from here I encourage them to seek external advice and help them through that process as well. When interview invitations come out, we begin the process of practicing how to translate the student’s strengths and passions into conversations with University affiliates. Practice is key and we go through common questions asked by top universities to ensure interview success!
