Tutoring Experience
I have several years of experience helping students achieve their potential in mathematics at both GCSE and A level. Having been through the Cambridge interview process and passed all three STEP exams comfortably, I am well placed to mentor others through these exams and application process.
Tutoring Approach
I begin my lessons going over conceptual ideas and theory, using open dialogue to appreciate the student’s understanding and connecting our discussion to other areas of mathematics to provide a stronger understanding across the syllabus.
Most of my time with each student is focused on problem solving. Encouraging the student to talk through their approach while solving a problem not only solidifies their understanding but helps their confidence and identifies any areas of misunderstanding promptly.
I expect students to continue working on their methods outside of tuition time, but I am more than happy to provide marking and example solutions, as well as discuss a student’s approach in their next lesson. I find that most tuition value comes from discussing these problems which a student has considered for some time.
For Oxbridge, I can offer mock interviews and feedback, to increase familiarity and confidence with this format.
