Tutoring Experience
I completed my high school education in Wales, UK, earning an IB diploma with Higher Level (HL) courses in Chemistry, Biology, and Math. After high school, I pursued a bachelor's degree in chemistry at Middlebury College in Vermont, USA, where I was a Davis Scholar and frequently appeared on the Dean’s List, earning the College Scholar title nearly every semester. I also minored in math and German and had the opportunity to study abroad in Berlin, Germany during my junior year. I hold a master’s degree in chemistry from the University of Saint Joseph in Connecticut, USA.
Currently, I teach AP Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Honors Chemistry at a premier boarding school in Connecticut.
This is where I am completing my 13th year at Loomis. As a residential faculty member, I live in a dorm with my family, coach soccer in the fall, and lead the science quiz team in the winter. I was honored as the 2022-2023 Teacher of the Year by the student body, an accolade I also received at my first teaching position in 2011.
My passion lies in the classroom, where I aim to make learning engaging and relatable while challenging my students and providing them with the tools they need to succeed.
Tutoring Approach
My tutoring and teaching method is highly engaging. I use clear and well-crafted questions to identify gaps and misconceptions in the student's understanding. I then explain concepts using straightforward, easy-to-understand vocabulary, often employing simple and familiar analogies to clarify difficult ideas. I provide students with tips and mnemonics to help them remember concepts more easily.
Throughout a tutoring session, I ask questions to involve the student in the learning process and to check their understanding. When problem-solving, I use scaffolding and break down the problem step-by-step. After demonstrating how to solve a problem, I let the student take the lead on the next problem, offering guidance as needed and only stepping in when the student encounters difficulty. I am very patient and adaptable to the student's learning style.
Testimonials
"My son was completely confused on a new concept introduced in Honors Chemistry and was getting disheartened. We reached out for “emergency help” and within 30 minutes with George he had mastered the concept and moved on to early learn the next day’s topic. More importantly, he said the session “was fun”! Will definitely be using through this year and into AP"

"If you are trying to prepare for the AP exam and need a rocket boost - Mr. George is the tutor you need. Despite the best efforts of school teachers, when there are gaps left in AP teachings - it is of pure relief to have found someone so knowledgeable and responsive as Mr. George who can tailor the lesson to exactly what the student needs. He is an extraordinary AP Chem teacher"
Theresa, AP Chemistry student
"My son and I first met with Koby (George) to get a feel as to how he would approach tutoring at college level. It was clear Koby was proficient with the subject matter and we retained him and prepared a plan of weekly tutoring to assist my son. Thus far all has gone very well..."
