Tutoring Experience

I specialise in Oxbridge admissions tutoring, specifically the STEP, MAT, TMUA and CTMUA examinations.

Having achieved a double first in the University of Cambridge Mathematics BA, as well as 120/120 in the STEP I examination (top three students to achieve this top mark globally in that year), I have a range of experience in truly perfecting the mathematics admissions examinations.

I have over 200 hours of tutoring experience in this area, and have had the pleasure of tutoring people from all over the globe who have received Oxbridge offers.

Tutoring Approach

STEP Tuition Approach

STEP is best approached by going through a large number of past paper questions, although students can often get stuck along the way. My teaching style aims to look at your personal mathematical abilities in the areas of the STEP syllabus and help you develop your ability to tackle the STEP exams. I aim to go through STEP questions, giving hints along the way to encourage you to learn how to solve the most challenging STEP questions, whilst also highlighting any key themes and tricks that are applicable across many STEP questions.

MAT Tuition Approach

MAT involves a range of challenging and unfamiliar mathematical and logical problems that really test their mathematical knowledge and problem-solving skills. MAT is often best approached through experience with previous past paper questions, although often students can get stuck along the way. I look at your personal mathematical abilities in and around the areas of the MAT syllabus, and develop your skills using a guiding hand in the areas you personally find challenging. When tutoring for the MAT, I focus on three main areas: perfecting the mathematical knowledge and methods required for the exam; developing the student’s ability to tackle challenging unseen problems in novel ways through past paper questions; and managing time in the exam to optimise the student’s mark. I make tuition fun and engaging so you can develop your skills and optimise your exam performance.

TMUA & CTMUA Tuition Approach

TMUA and CTMUA involves solving short but challenging mathematics problems at a relatively fast speed. When tutoring TMUA and CTMUA I look at both these areas in depth, helping you to develop your problem-solving skills in maths and logic, as well as teaching exam tips and tricks to best utilise your time in the exam itself to optimise your results! I tailor tuition to each specific student so that they are as comfortable as possible with the tuition style and the syllabus, so that they can best develop their skills and get the results they need

Oxbridge Application and Interview Preparation Tuition Approach

Often university applications can be daunting, especially when it comes to writing personal statements and preparing for interviews. I provide advice when it comes to mathematics personal statements, helping the student show off their skills and interest in the subject. In interview preparation and practice I aim to develop your skills on verbally communicating your mathematical approaches to problems, and how to demonstrate your ability to understand the prompts given by interviewers.

University Mathematics Tuition Approach

Studying mathematics at university is often challenging, requiring the student to understand and process a large amount of mathematical content, as well as use mathematics methods in a range of novel and different ways. When tutoring university mathematics, I focus on two main areas. Firstly, I work on crystalising and understanding the difficult concepts and theory on the course. Further, I work on developing the student’s ability to apply this theory to unfamiliar questions, so they are able to answer tough and unfamiliar questions.
