Tutoring Experience

With four years of experience as a Teacher/Tutor, I have developed a strong expertise in tutoring English Literature and History at both A-Level and GCSE levels. Additionally, I specialize in preparing students for the English Paper of their 11 Plus Exams. Over the past two years, I have extended my tutoring services to include private sessions for students aspiring to study law at Oxbridge. In this role, I guide them through the admissions process and provide tailored preparation for the LNAT exam.

My tutoring experience encompasses a wide range of subjects and activities. I have provided support in primary school Maths and English, conducted workshops for 11 Plus Creative Writing, and assisted other tutors in delivering sessions, both in person and online. Moreover, I have worked closely with students of various ages and abilities, offering personalized 1-to-1 support and fostering interactive learning environments.

Furthermore, I have assisted students with Oxbridge entrance exam preparation, including the LNAT and Cambridge Law Test. I also offer guidance on crafting compelling personal statements, providing feedback and revisions to ensure they stand out. Additionally, I assist students with interview preparation, conducting mock interviews to help them feel confident and prepared. With an Enhanced DBS Certification, I uphold the highest standards of safety and professionalism in all my tutoring endeavors.

Tutoring Approach

My approach is generally tailored to the subject I am tutoring and the abilities and preferences of the student being tutored. However, common elements across my approach include:

Study Coaching - Whilst the majority of the session will be focused on learning content, depending on the subject and the students needs, I will often focus on helping students to unlock the best study strategies for them - to help them learn the content and tackle questions in line with specification requirements. This includes giving students structural advice on how to approach certain questions e.g. long essay questions in English Literature.

Interactivity and Adaptability - Although I will have structured lesson plans after having assessed my students' requirements and having discussed a general teaching/learning strategy with them for our future lessons, I am always open to adapting my teaching approach according to the students needs in a particular lesson e.g. if they want to go over an exam question they did not do particularly well in, or if there is a specific area they are struggling with at that time. I mostly use an interactive whiteboard and share materials on screen, instead of delivering content through (e.g.) PowerPoint slides, to avoid the lesson following the format of a lecture, and allowing the lesson to be more interactive.

Out of Class Assignments - To ensure students get the most out of the course, I give them tailored assignments to enable them to explore the subject in their own time. Often this extra work is in line with their school assignments as to not create an extra burden and to help them in areas they are specifically struggling in. Such extra work is most effective for students preparing for university admissions, as a lot of the work they will be doing is independent and guided by my advice or strategies provided in our tutoring sessions.

Amazing experience. Tutor with great insight and advice into an otherwise rigorous and complicated subject. Highly recommend to anyone taking the LNATs seriously.
