Tutoring Experience

I have been teaching Mathematics at an IB World School for 15 years, where I’ve implemented and designed the IB Mathematics program, including the Standard Level course, which has grown significantly in popularity. I am specifically trained by the IB organization in both the Analysis and Approaches (AA) and Applications and Interpretation (AI) courses. In addition to my classroom experience, I’ve been an IB examiner for the last five years, providing me with valuable insight into the assessment process. I hold an honors degree in Mathematics, specializing in Statistics, Combinatorics, and Optimization. Over the years, I’ve tutored over a hundred students in various levels of math, including IB Math HL and SL, AP Statistics, AP Calculus, and SAT preparation. During my sessions, I emphasize reviewing concepts from previous lessons to reinforce understanding, as most mathematical ideas build upon each other. I take pride in the lasting relationships I’ve built with my students, many of whom continue with me year after year until graduation. I have never lost a student due to poor fit, a testament to my adaptability and commitment to each student’s unique learning needs.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to tutoring begins with an introductory call to assess whether I’m a good fit for the student and to understand what topics they’ve studied, what areas they need help with, and whether they have access to school textbooks. If not, I provide my own resources. This initial consultation helps me tailor my lessons to their specific needs, and I may even offer a sample question to gauge their current knowledge. With this insight, I can strategically prepare lessons, knowing exactly where to begin.

Throughout our sessions, I ensure students have a clear focus, whether it’s on revision or completing practice tests. Once we conclude a topic, I create customized mock exams from my extensive exam bank to challenge the student and assess their understanding. I mark their homework and use benchmarks to track their progress, making sure they’ve truly learned the material. Understanding that mathematics may not be the most thrilling subject for everyone, I bring energy to our sessions and select questions that align with their personal interests, keeping them engaged and motivated.
