Our tutors go through a rigorous selection process, having been interviewed to assess their teaching skills and subject knowledge. They have extensive tutoring experience with a track record of success, helping students achieve their academic goals.

Tutoring Experience

I have been a full-time tutor for five years, covering all Sciences and Maths.

I have focused on students from year 10 and above, covering GCSE for all sciences and Maths; and A level for Chemistry, Biology and Maths. In addition, I have experience helping students to prepare their University applications. This has included tuition for the Natural Sciences Admissions Assessment for Cambridge and BMAT.

I have also worked with students on their personal statements and helped them prepare for interviews by providing mock interviews followed by written feedback.

Last year, I worked with one student applying for the Natural Sciences at Cambridge (helped with personal statement, NSAA and interview) - he was successful. I did the same with another a student applying to study Chemistry at Oxford - successful.

Lots of students have achieved above their original expectations in A level and GCSE exams after working with me. One particular success was a (capable) student who I taught the whole of IGCSE physics to (they are doing IB at school) and went on to achieve a grade 9.

Tutoring Approach

My overall approach is a precise one.

I always emphasize to all students the importance of the exam specification, outlining exactly what they need to know for their exams and using the wording they will need to use to make sure they get the marks in the mark schemes. I make this clear to help students be as Self-sufficient as possible when they are not in my lessons.

Maths: focus is on practice. Lessons often involve going through topics the student has identified as difficult or current, before setting homework to complete lots of questions using what they have learned.

Biology, Chemistry and Physics: Lessons are always tailored to student needs - I always ask if they are finding anything difficult and then work on this if appropriate. Focus is on working through the specification, often doing past paper questions and helping the student to improve how they express their answers in addition to helping with any gaps in their understanding which is identified from the paper questions.
