Dan
University of Oxford - PhD Maths
I'm Dan, a passionate young mathematician with a joint degree in mathematics from Imperial College London and MIT. My journey in mathematics began in high school, I competed in Maths Olympiads, and it has led me to pursue a PhD. I believe that teaching should facilitate a guided self-education process, empowering students to explore and discover knowledge independently.

Tutoring Experience
I have tutored mathematics students across a range of levels:
• GCSE
• A Level Maths and Further Maths
• International Baccalaureate
• Olympiad
• Oxford MAT
• Undergraduate (Birkbeck, Imperial, Manchester, Leeds and UCL).
I have been a tutor for the official MAT training programme, organised by Oxford University. I am confident teaching for the MAT and other university admission tests and also at undergraduate & master’s level.
As a tutor for the MAT training programme, I have given tutorials to groups of up to eight students and have understood where students usually make mistakes. I have also tutored privately for MAT one-to-one.
Tutoring Approach
I have developed a collection of well-structured educational resources, aimed at improving both the background knowledge and exam taking skills for the MAT. In practice, when we hit a difficult exercise from a past paper, this allows me to suggest extra exercises specifically designed to remedy gaps in the knowledge of the student while minimising the number of hours required and explicitly targeting MAT.
I have an excellent understanding of Mathematics (supported by my results at Imperial College, where I scored in top 5%), which allows to me draw connections between fields and explain concepts in easier terms. I am positive this helps me instil a sense of confidence in my tutees.
I also have extensive experience tutoring at secondary school level (GCSE, A-Levels, IB) and I always try to match individual needs. I am quick to adapt to the students' style and match individual needs. I strongly believe teaching should be more like a guided self-education process. I think one of the best ways to tutor (especially in an online environment) is to concentrate on homework exercises. The student has time to attempt the questions in their own time, at their own pace; thus, we can get the most out of the session by mainly discussing questions that the student has had difficulty solving.
