Personally Interviewed

Our tutors go through a rigorous selection process, having been interviewed to assess their teaching skills and subject knowledge. They have extensive tutoring experience with a track record of success, helping students achieve their academic goals.

Tutoring Experience

I’ve tutored for almost three and many of my students have stayed with me for over a year. In addition to my high school courses and degree courses, I’ve also taken Statistics and Economics at Stanford and 6 years of Mandarin Chinese (Beijing Dialect) throughout high school and college. I try to foster long-term change in students’ thinking and learning methods, so that they can apply principles from each subject outside that one field of work.

Tutoring Approach

I focus first on workflow, ensuring students are keeping good working habits before I go to improve their knowledge.

I specialize in teaching for test-taking since it requires methodical consistency and can quickly reveal issues in a student’s critical thinking techniques. For computer science, I prioritize students’ fundamental understanding of logic, so that they can better visualize what their code is achieving. I hope to help my students achieve confidence and fluency, and hopefully, keep coding. For math, the problems range from directly displayed to completely abstract, a perfect gradient for me to understand where students are becoming impatient, disoriented, or mislead. I’ve tutored math consistently throughout my career, from geometry to calculus and statistical analysis and have brought students’ individual scores up by two bucket grades in a single semester.

When I previously tutored Chinese, or AP Lit for a student learning English as a second language, I still used many of these techniques: unshakeable foundations first, then vocabulary and construction.
