Personally Interviewed
Our tutors go through a rigorous selection process, having been interviewed to assess their teaching skills and subject knowledge. They have extensive tutoring experience with a track record of success, helping students achieve their academic goals.
Tutoring Experience
I have given personal statement and interview advice to students applying for top universities, including Oxbridge. Drawing on my experience as a Sutton Trust alumnus, I know what excellent mentoring and advice looks like.
As such, students who I have assisted with personal statement and interview advice have gone on to apply for the very top universities, as well as reach positions such as Head Girl within their school. I have tutored English at GCSE, A Level and IB level, as well as GCSE History GCSE.
Tutoring Approach
Regardless of subject, I am a personable and friendly tutor who is always happy to share details of my academic journey and answer any questions students may have. I very much enjoy tutoring.
For A-Level/ IB subjects, I first work closely alongside my students as they answer exam questions. From this, I formulate a framework detailing which areas specifically require focus. For English literature, I orient all my teaching around ‘big ideas’ that can be applied to any exam question, namely literary schools of thought and broad genres of literature. This usually is combined with pertinent pieces of supplementary reading I’ve recommended. For Japanese, I focus not on the skills many students think they need, but what the exam specifically looks for. I look for ways in which students can take pre-existing vocabulary and apply it to set pieces of grammar to reach the top marking bands.
For Oxbridge applications, I talk in detail with students about their experiences and interests in their subject. I also make an effort to try and link their extracurricular interest to their subject in a genuinely academic way. This allows us to create a preliminary personal statement, the rougher edges of which make clear where some further reading may be required. Once this has been completed, I provide examples of good interview practice, before walking through interview-like questions. I also talk more generally with students about the practicalities of the interview process and answer any questions they may have.
