I am Barbara, a Ph.D. holder in Ecology. After I earned my Ph.D., I became a certified Biology and Environmental Sciences teacher and have spent over 12 years teaching High School and IB students. In addition to being an Environmental Systems and Society and Biology Examiner, I also contribute as an IB Content Writer. Tutoring Experience

I have been tutoring students, both offline and online, for 12 years, with 95% of my students improving their grades by at least 1 point and 87% by 2 points. My experience spans a wide range of academic needs, from exam preparation to deepening understanding of complex concepts. As an examiner, I have access to a variety of valuable resources, including the IB official Question Bank, allowing me to offer highly targeted and effective tutoring. My dual roles as a teacher and examiner enable me to tailor my approach to each student, ensuring that they receive the personalized support needed to achieve their academic goals. I tailor all of my lessons according to the updated IB curriculum.

Tutoring Approach

My approach begins with understanding the student's specific challenges by asking them what issues they have with the subject and whether they prefer to focus on practicing or revising. I prepare tests from previous IB exams, asking questions based on topics to gauge their weaknesses and tailor lessons to address those areas. Each lesson includes practice, with a strong emphasis on revising topics and tracking progress through questions completed during the session. I also assign homework, including past papers, to reinforce learning between lessons, starting each session with a discussion of their homework. For students who don’t progress as expected, I stress the importance of learning for their future and involve parents when needed.

During lessons, I make sure to maintain a high level of engagement by using two screens—one to keep an eye on the student and the other for the lesson materials. I keep the dialogue open, constantly asking questions to assess their understanding and encourage active participation. This consistent communication allows me to adapt the learning process in real-time, ensuring the student remains on track. My approach is designed to not only address academic weaknesses but also to build a strong foundation for the student's future success.
