Tutoring Experience

I have been tutoring A-Level Maths and Further Maths for over five years, with previous cohorts of students gaining places at their first-choice university. I also volunteered to teach maths as a teacher in South Africa for several weeks.

Tutoring Approach

I aim to make lessons fun, explanations intuitive, and examples illuminating while being approachable and always open to questions. I would never want my students to feel scared of asking questions; I've been in your situation before and know the value of having someone to turn to no matter what difficulties you're experiencing.

What's important is to first establish exactly what topics you need help with. There must have been something you've studied recently that made you think "I could do with some extra tuition for this". Here's an example lesson plan: the student identifies a topic they need help with, I re-explain it a few ways, perform some worked examples, then let them practise while I supervise, and finally provide some feedback.

By engaging students in the bigger picture of the mathematical tools they encounter, rather than just trying to memorise methods parrot fashion, I aim to make a long-term difference to their understanding of the subject, which will stand them in good stead for their exams both near and far.
