Tutoring Experience

During my time as a classroom teacher, I have had valuable experience in working with students from a diverse range of backgrounds.

I aim to create differentiated and engaging sessions that thoroughly cover whichever syllabus my students are studying over multiple sessions, to review topics regularly, while also giving my students the chance to direct their own studies.

To ensure students have an embedded knowledge and understanding of Film I give suggestions for extra reading or activities to complete in between sessions, this creates continuity of learning and also encourages mastery of the subject.

I also work as an examinor with another education institution for A'Level Film which enables me to provide students with valuable insight into the assessment process. I aim to ensure that students can develop their writing skills so that they can tailor their responses and effectively meet the requirements of exam questions.

Tutoring Approach

I have a passion for improving standards in education and achieving the highest standards of student progress. I strongly believe that teachers have a responsibility to inspire young people, raise aspirations and engender attitudes of mutual respect and tolerance so that students can learn and participate in a safe, harmonious and cohesive community. A positive student/teacher rapport where individual needs are recognized and catered for is the key to producing confident and successful lifelong learners.

I have extensive experience and a desire for excellence in my own classroom practice. I am perceptive and sensitive to the needs of others which makes me highly skilled at relating to other people therefore communication is a particular strength of mine; I build strong relationships with both adults and young people. I create positive learning environments’ and I am confident that I strike the right balance by providing support and compassion while maintaining clear boundaries and high expectations.

As a subject lead, I coordinate and deliver A Level Film Studies. I design and implement the curriculum to ensure students get an exceptional education. Reflecting and adapting my resources to make improvements is integral to my work. Timely and effective monitoring, tracking and assessment of my student's progress allows me to implement strategies to support them and raise student achievement.

I always strive to produce outstanding teaching materials. I enjoy planning, creating and sharing teaching resources that are visually engaging and have clarity of purpose including differentiating materials to support students with specific educational needs.

I value taking a holistic approach to learning both personally and professionally, I take a keen interest in wellbeing which is reflected in the subjects I have previously taught and the extra courses I have completed, this includes a certificate in counselling skills from UWE and I am currently completing a distance learning course with Yale university on the Science of Happiness. I believe that if you create the right conditions anyone can be successful, for me the foundations of those conditions are emotional wellbeing.
