Tutoring Experience
I have several years of tutoring experience, working with students across a range of levels and subjects. My journey began during my final year of sixth form, where I served as a Mathematics teaching assistant for Year 7 students, helping them build a strong foundation in the subject. Since then, I have expanded my tutoring to include subjects such as Philosophy, Politics, and Economics, drawing from my academic background at the University of Oxford. I focus on creating tailored, engaging lessons that suit the individual learning styles of my students, helping them not only understand complex topics but also develop confidence in their abilities.
Tutoring Approach
In my tutoring sessions, I take a personalized and interactive approach, starting by discussing the TSA admissions process with my students to ensure they understand the structure and expectations. I learn what each student is currently studying and select a range of essay questions for them to practice with, as I believe that active practice is key to improvement. Mistakes are a natural part of the learning process, and I focus on identifying areas of weakness and addressing any gaps in their knowledge. A key element of my teaching is helping students build strong arguments, guiding them through the process of constructing logical, well-supported points that are crucial for success in admissions exams and beyond.
In addition to working together during tutoring sessions, I encourage students to practice independently. I check in regularly to see how much they are studying in their own time, ensuring they are maintaining a consistent effort outside of our lessons. I believe that progress is best achieved when learning is an ongoing process, not confined to tutoring hours. I also make it a point to ask how students are feeling about their progress, creating an open environment where they can share their thoughts on their improvements and any challenges they are facing. This allows me to tailor my approach to best support each student’s development and ensure they are on track to reach their academic goals.
