In electrolysis, an electric current is passed through a solution of the metal salt. The metal ions are reduced at the cathode and deposited as pure metal. In distillation, the metal is heated until it vaporises. The vapour is then condensed to get the pure metal. In liquation, the metal is heated until it melts. The impurities remain solid and can be separated from the liquid metal.
