Resolution is a measure of the ability to distinguish between two closely spaced objects or signals. However, when interference occurs, the overlapping waves can blur the boundaries between these elements, reducing the clarity and detail of the image. This results in a lower resolution.
In the case of signal transmission, such as in radio or television broadcasting, interference can cause a similar reduction in resolution. The original signal is made up of a specific pattern of waves. If other waves of similar frequencies interfere with this signal, they can alter this pattern, making it harder to distinguish the original signal from the noise. This can lead to a loss of detail in the transmitted information, reducing the resolution.
In order to minimise the effects of interference on resolution, various techniques can be used. These include using filters to block out unwanted frequencies, using directional antennas to focus the signal in a specific direction, and using error correction techniques to identify and correct errors in the received signal. Despite these measures, however, it is often impossible to completely eliminate the effects of interference, and some loss of resolution is typically unavoidable.
