In the second year, the population will increase by 20% of 120, which is 24 rabbits, resulting in a total of 144 rabbits. This pattern continues, with the population growing faster as it gets larger.
Exponential growth can occur in any species, including humans, but it is most commonly observed in organisms with short life spans and high reproductive rates, such as bacteria and insects. However, it's important to note that exponential growth cannot continue indefinitely in natural populations due to limiting factors such as food, space, and disease. These factors eventually lead to a slowdown in population growth, resulting in a sigmoidal (S-shaped) growth curve.
