Another major issue is energy storage. Solar panels generate electricity during the day when the sun is shining, but energy demand often peaks in the evening when the sun has set. To address this, we need efficient and cost-effective energy storage solutions, such as batteries, to store excess energy produced during the day for use at night. However, current battery technology can be expensive and may not always store enough energy to meet demand.

The efficiency of solar panels also varies depending on their location. Areas closer to the equator receive more direct sunlight throughout the year, making solar power more reliable in these regions. In contrast, places further from the equator, or those with long winters and short days, may find solar power less effective. Additionally, the angle and orientation of solar panels can impact their efficiency, requiring careful planning and installation to maximise energy capture.

Lastly, the time of day affects solar power generation. Solar panels produce the most energy around midday when the sun is at its highest point in the sky. Early mornings and late afternoons see reduced energy production, and no energy is generated at night. This daily cycle means that solar power alone cannot consistently meet energy demands without supplementary sources or storage systems.

Understanding these reliability issues is crucial for improving solar power technology and integrating it effectively into our energy systems.
