How do you order a set of decimals?

To order a set of decimals, compare each digit from left to right, starting with the whole number part.

When ordering decimals, the first step is to look at the whole number part of each decimal. The decimal with the smallest whole number is the smallest overall. If the whole numbers are the same, move to the digits immediately after the decimal point. Compare these digits one by one from left to right.

For example, to order the decimals 3.45, 3.5, and 3.405, start by comparing the whole numbers. All have the whole number 3, so we move to the digits after the decimal point. Compare the first digit after the decimal: 4, 5, and 4. Since 3.405 has a 0 in the second decimal place, it is smaller than 3.45. Therefore, 3.405 is the smallest. Next, compare 3.45 and 3.5. Since 4 is less than 5, 3.45 is smaller than 3.5. So, the order is 3.405, 3.45, and 3.5.

If the decimals have different lengths, you can add zeros to the end of the shorter decimals to make them the same length. For instance, to compare 0.6 and 0.56, you can think of 0.6 as 0.60. Now, compare 0.60 and 0.56. Since 60 is greater than 56, 0.6 is greater than 0.56.

By following these steps, you can accurately order any set of decimals from smallest to largest.
