To create a bar chart with grouped data, use different coloured bars for each group within each category.
First, gather your data and organise it into categories and groups. For example, if you are comparing the favourite fruits of boys and girls in a class, your categories might be different fruits (like apples, bananas, and oranges), and your groups would be boys and girls.
Next, draw your axes. The horizontal axis (x-axis) will represent the categories (the different fruits), and the vertical axis (y-axis) will represent the frequency or count (how many boys and girls like each fruit). Make sure to label both axes clearly.
Now, for each category, draw bars next to each other for each group. For instance, for the category 'apples', you would draw one bar for boys and another bar for girls, side by side. Use different colours or patterns to distinguish between the groups. This makes it easier to compare the data visually.
Ensure that the bars are of equal width and spaced evenly. The height of each bar should correspond to the frequency or count for that group within the category. For example, if 10 boys and 15 girls like apples, the height of the boys' bar will be 10 units, and the girls' bar will be 15 units.
Finally, add a key or legend to explain what each colour or pattern represents. This helps anyone reading the chart to understand which bars correspond to which groups.
