The complex structure of the rainforest, with its multiple layers from the forest floor to the canopy, creates numerous niches where different organisms can live.
In deserts, the extreme conditions of heat and dryness mean that only specially adapted plants and animals can survive. This leads to unique species that are not found anywhere else.
