This star is located almost directly above the Earth's North Pole and appears to remain stationary in the sky. By locating the North Star, navigators can determine their latitude in the Northern Hemisphere.

Other constellations, such as the Big Dipper and Orion, can also be used to determine direction and location. By identifying these constellations and their positions in the sky, navigators can determine their heading and location on the Earth.
