The Templars were recognised for their white mantles adorned with a red cross, a symbol that became synonymous with their order.

Their role expanded beyond mere protection of pilgrims. The Templars became a standing army in the Holy Land, participating in many major battles of the Crusades, including the pivotal Battle of Hattin in 1187. They were renowned for their fierce fighting skills and strict code of conduct, inspired by the Cistercian Order. Their military prowess was instrumental in holding onto Christian territories and fortifications in the Middle East.
