Tutoring Experience

I have experience tutoring Maths at GCSE level when volunteering at a community center in Belfast in the 2019/2020 academic year. This has been built upon recently via ongoing A-level Maths tuition. Additionally, I have experience tutoring for A-level Chemistry. I was able to assist in increasing test marks by about 40% during the tuition periods.

Tutoring Approach

For Maths, I seek to introduce a topic from first principles (where appropriate) briefly to allow the student to develop an understanding fundamentally of what they are doing, before transitioning into simple questions. After the student has a decent grasp of the topic, I work through past papers with them.

For Biology, I will talk simply through the requested material before involving the student in a proactive manner (either questions or asking them to explain the topic back to me). I will use frequent diagrams and videos to illustrate the material additionally.

For Chemistry, I will seek to explain the material in the simplest possible terms that make sense at the level (for example reactions being driven by decreases in energy at GCSE, before expanding on this explanation for A level students to include orbitals). I will place great emphasis on working through questions with the students during sessions, drawing via an interactive whiteboard.
