Tutoring Experience

I have tutored A-Level Business helping my students go through their specific exam board specifications in order to cover all content, as well as practicing and thoroughly going through past exam papers.

Moreover, in Sixth Form, I helped tutor and mentor Yr12 Business A-Level class, studying through Edexcel past papers and helping those struggling with content, whilst simultaneously revising for my final Yr13 exams.

Whilst working with a charity focused on helping disadvantaged students from low socio-economic backgrounds, I have also mentored students with different abilities, focusing on an array of subjects that they need help on.

Tutoring Approach

I would firstly consult with the student to find out what area they need the most help on with regards to the subject, which exam board they are sitting their exams for and what is their goal for our tutoring sessions.

Once finding these out, this will help me to firstly understand what I should prioritise during our sessions so that the maximum time is efficiently used.

Secondly, so I know what sort of content to cover over the next few lessons by going through the specific exam boards website and deriving relevant questions from there and thirdly being able to ensure that I am meeting the expectations of the student with each lesson we have.

For example, if the student is struggling with understanding ‘markets and their exam board is Edexcel, I would go through this exam board’s specification, so I know what topics to cover within this section. I would break down the lesson into a series of mini subtopics that is related to the spec, e.g., mass markets vs niche, pros and cons of mass/niche. This will enable an easy flow of the lesson and give the student a chance to understand this area of topic more easily in a way that is digestible.

I would also include mini questions at the end of each section or towards the end of the lesson, to make sure they put into practice what they have learnt, and we will answer it together, following the exam boards criteria.
